Thanks again for all of the help last week! Just two more quick questions.
How much resistance do you guys see on your clutch? Mine feels a little softer since the switch. I did put a slightly different clutch in and it has five springs instead of the four that were on the original. I am wondering if that has something to do with it. When pressing on the pedal, it starts to disengauge the clutch when the pedal is a good 4" off the floor, it just feels soft.
Secondly, I get a little bit of chatter when starting out in first gear. Do these clutches need some break in time? Yes, I resurfaced the flywheel, and yes I bled the clutch.
A new pressure plate will feel softer and have a different release/engagement height because the old one is "sprung"...meaning the diaphragm spring fingers have lost there ability to maintain a constant spring rate, resulting in a hard pedal with less release. The chatter could be from some oil that was transfered from your hands onto the clutch parts, or not washing the flywheel properly after resurfacing, or, what I have, a loose pinion yoke on the pinion shaft. Even though the pinion nut is tight, the yoke has slack in the splines, and chatters back and forth on take off.
