Hi, I'm brand new to the forum and also truck ownership. I bought a '72 F100 and it apparently needs a Y-pipe (the one coming off the headers) ... it's a 302cid. Does anyone know where I could find one? Looks like the auto parts people don't stock them ....
Well, I hope you mean "manifolds" when you said "headers".
They are two different animals. A stock Y-pipe will be probably a bit hard to come by. Have you check around your local muffler shops. I bet they could come up with the right one to bolt in. If not, I'm sure they could make one also.
If you actually have "headers" with a Y-pipe, then you will need a special made unit anyway.
How is the remainder of the exhaust. I know that most of the truck catalogs offer a complete exhaust front to back with mufflers to make duals and they are reasonable. Just a thought.
Larry thanks for the advice :-) Actually the system was missing from the Y-pipe back. Yes, I meant exhaust manifolds - didn't know there was a difference. So I bought a muffler and installed it, which made for a quieter drive (!) but of course then I realised there were some holes in that old Y-pipe. Plus, I installed donut seals (I couldn't believe the nuts actually came off in good shape). I may go to a muffler shop and see if they can weld something up. Trying to keep cost down since at this point I've spent almost the cost of the truck in parts ;-) ... Getting the turn signals and brake lights working was a blast ... those old sockets like to make contact with whatever they can. Good thing fuses are so cheap. Good thing the officer was understanding too :-) ... that works so nicely now, I use my turn signals just for fun sometimes.
Next I will have to decide before the rainy season, what to do about all that rust. Roof; doors; body behind doors; body in front of doors; bed; frame; sides .... Hey, it runs and it gets me to the park-n-ride reliably.
