Parts Interchange?

All - I have a 97 ford F250 7.3 diesel with an auto tranny and 4x4. I need a new Flex plate inspection cover for it (obviously, not an easy find). I finally found a 1993 (same body) F350 7.3 diesel, but has a manual tranny (I assume this one will not fit). I also found a 1996 F250 5.8L V8 auto tranny. I am not sure if anyone of these will actually fit my vehicle. Any insight would be appreciated.

Is the inspection cover you speak of the same as the dust cover? If so, I did a E4OD to ZF-5 swap in my '97. The ZF was from an early 90s diesel and the dust covers for the auto and manual were not the same. I had to source one from a junkyard for the manual.

Yes, I am referring to the dust cover. Thanks for the response! I was pretty sure that the manual tranny cover wouldn't fit correctly on the auto. Would you have any idea in regards to the 96 gasser? I'm pretty sure that it will also not wok out. I talked to the ford dealer today, they had a rough picture of what they called the cover. The picture wasn't the best and it is hard to tell if it is even going to fit if I do order it. Debating about placing the order since they don't care to take it back.

I know the bell housings are different for sure so I would guess the dust covers are different also. I would keep your eyes out for someone parting out a diesel in the classifieds or find one at a junkyard. Maybe even Ebay. Its not a super critical part so you could run without it for a little while until you can source one. I ran without one for a while until i was finally able to find one.
