Hi all, i'm new to the forum! I'm excited to be a Powerstroke owner again! I had a 2000 with the 7.3L and since bought and now sold a Chevy 1500. Last week I bought a new 2015 6.7L. I am MORE than impressed and love the truck. Today I brought it to get the windows tinted. I have not had one issue with the truck since I have had it. When they finished with the windows, my check engine light was on. The shop I had it done it EXTREMELY reputable. They brought out their snap on scanner and pulled the code. p0073 for the ambient air temp sensor circuit high. Is this a coincidence that this came on after they got done, or could something they did while tinting the windows tripped this?
As I drove off down the road after determining I wasn't going to hurt the truck, the air temp sensor went from showing -40 to the actual temperature. What would cause this?
I deleted the code when I got home with my actron, and the MIL has stayed off since, however, it shows P0073 Permanent
-40 is a default. I have seen it when ambient temp sensors were unplugged. I'm not certain on the location of the sensor on the new truck usually in front behind the grille. There is nothing window tinting could do to disturb the ambient temp senser. Maybe someone can give you a location and it is just not plugged in securely as they rarely go bad. Being a new truck if the code came back I would not clear it and have them take care of it under warranty. Depending on the vehicle it can make the hvac sys not work correctly as the trick thinks is really cold out.
I believe the ambient temp sensor is in the right hand mirror.
Sounds like it got unplugged or bad connection.
If its not to much trouble just stop at the dealer and have them check.
Good luck and welcome to the 6.7 .

That's exactly what happened, the air would not engage and blow cold. I can't figure this one out. I guess it was just a coincidence that it happened then. As I said, as I started driving, the air temp corrected itself and the air started blowing cold. I just wanted to check with everyone and get their opinions.
When the shop called snap-on (I guess it's part of the service you get with that 3500 dollar scan tool) they said that the sensor was behind the grill.
I don't think they did, I may be wrong though. I'll do some checking and see if it looks like they did. I know the tint was cut using a template system software they have. I'm going to check now to see if I can tell if it looks like wither mirror was removed.

Can't find any evidence of the mirrors being removed. Not having the problems anymore....knock on wood.
You will find that these rigs have a very complex computer network in them. And sometimes there is a glitch and then that glitch clears itself. Other times a ECU and module reboot will fix the issue.
I am on my 4th 6.7 liter Diesel Ford Truck and they all done something like that once . Glad you don't need a service visit.
And I want to point out that this episodes for me haven't been a constant problem. One reboot needed in 4 years isn't bad and the problem never came back. Other's here have posted that reboots have fixed their issues too. Usually it is involving the HVAC though...
I had my windows tinted shortly after buying my truck. I noticed on the way home, as well as after I got home later that day, that the drivers mirror was constantly trying to adjust itself - even once the truck was shut down and the mirrors were folded for parking. I pulled the fuse at that point, as I didn't want the motors to burn out if they kept doing that overnight. The next day, and every day since then, I have not had a problem. I finally figured out that the soapy water that they hosed down the window with to apply the film, had worked its way into the mirror switch or plug and allowed current to flow - even without me moving the buttons. I had largely forgotten about that until seeing this thread. Since your temp sensor went to default right after a tint job, perhaps you had a similar issue.
