Question dying at the start?

I just traded in my 02 SuperCrew for my new 2000 F250 PSD CrewCab. I had a manuel transmission in a 99 ext cab psd several years ago and loved it. Plenty of power and ran great. On my new one (which is automatic) I noticed several times after it sits a day or so without running, when I try to start it it will turn over and after a second or two will die. On the second start it will start right up....any ideas? is it the fuel filter or something else? I never had this problem before. Also my automatic doesn't seem to have the quick acceleration and boost in power like my manuel did. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

thanks for your help
