transfer case d-20

would anyone know if it is possible for transmission fluid from the automatic transmission to migrate into the transfer case?
it's a 1973 bronco with 351w, c4, dana 20 t case

Yes, if the adaptor seal between them is bad.

just where would that seal be located? I don't recall the adapter having a seal.
I'm a bit confused

transfer case d-20

the seal is on the input shaft of the transfer case. thus it is called the "transfer case input shaft seal". gotta pull the case to get to it.
