ignition help

I have a 1985 f150 with a 300cid. I have an offenhauser header and a 4b intake manifold with an adapter plate with a Holley 2b 350cfm. Stock cam and everything else. I was wondering if a higher voltage ignition coil and some better plugs would give me anymore noticeable power increase.

My opinion: Only if you have rasied the compression ratio substantially and are planning to rev the engine higher than its original upper RPM limit - about 4600 RPM or so. Otherwise the stock TFI ignition should work fine.

I know many others will disagree with me and chime in with their anecdotal evidence so let the debate begin - once again.

What FTF said X2. It only takes X amount of volts to fire a plug and that X amount is probably much less than one thinks and all the rest of the excess voltage is just sitting there going along for the ride.

Thanks for the advise. Also just wondering what would happen if I had too much of a gap on my spark plug. Because in theory the larger the gap the more voltage required to jump the gap and the hotter the spark. Right?

Some of us use EFI spark plugs and/or a wider gap like 50-60 with no problem.
