The code on the door sticker is H9, which according the tech article, I should have a 3.55 Limited Slip. However, the tag on the rear axle reads:
S837J
3L55 88 4L05
I was at the local ford dealer and they said I had a 4.05 Locker.
I am not convinced of either. Both wheels spin in mud and snow or any thing loose, (will not spin on pavement) and performance dropped some when I went to the bigger tires.
Also, am I to assume that whatever is in the rear will be in the front axle too?
3L55 is a 3.55 LS.
Find another dealer, that one is an idiot. There were no 4.05:1 ratios in a Ford within living memory and there were no lockers offered in 1995 F150s.
The guy could well have been drunk or on drugs like Orn says. If you only read him the "4L05" part then I could at least think maybe he was a new guy that was told how to decode those numbers. If you gave him the whole thing then he's an idiot. The first 3 numbers in the row are the ratio and if there's an L in between the first two then it has a Limited Slip.
Oh also yes the front will have the same ratio or 3.54 which is close enough. Sometimes the ratio will be 1 or 2 points off. It doesn't hurt anything since we all know better than to drive on high traction surfaces in 4x4.
Did f150's have 8.8 rear ends in 95? That's what it looks like. Did they go to the 9.75 visteon's in 97 or 98 with the new body style?
