Hello y'all I got a 88 ford f150 with a 4.9 I bought the truck and it was running 190*f the truck sat for a couple months I went to drive it and it started running 210*f thought it might of been the thermostat. Pulled the housing off and there wasn't one in there so I put one in and was still running 210*f so I changed the water pump and its still running 210*f any ideas what it might be. Has dual electric fans on it just to note and they are working thanks y'all
You'll probably get some better answer if you post your question in the F150 section for your year ( it's near the top of the list of forum sections).
But, a couple of things. I had an 89 I6 and it didn't run hot and you don't hear a lot about it, so it's not typical.
Since the last guy ran without a thermostat, he probably had problems also.
Only simple thing would be an air pocket -- coolant can't flow and things get hot. Usually the engine runs hot, but there's no heat from the heater. Solution is to 'burp ' it. I've never done it, but the general rule is that you run it with the cap and watch for bubbles. Try doing a search on air pocket or burp.
After that, it gets more serious. As I said, you'll probably get more help in the older F150 section.
