Another good point Barry.
I'm a big fan of NAPA parts. The boosters can only be obtained reconditioned to my knowlege, but you can get brand new Master cylinders though.
In my opinion it's way too important to have good brakeing ability to forego a few dollars and not know you have the best offered installed.
ok, so power brake booster and master cylinder for a power brake booster, the bracket for the fire wall ( any 67 to 72 will work? ) and what about the brake pedal push rod and its linkage? does the bracket bolt to where the existing master is with 2 bolts or do i need to atatch it another way?
Yes, any bracket from '68 - '79 will work. The brake pedal push rod comes attached with the booster. The bracket bolts where the existing master bolts are plus two additional bolts already there in the firewall. While your at it, there is a plastic tube that the pushrod goes through and makes a weather seal between the booster and the hole in the firewall.
Does it matter whether the new master cylinder is for a power disc or power drum system? Will a prop valve be needed with a power drum system. I have a 1971 F250 4X4 and I would like the same conversion. Can I just add a master cylinder/booster from any 73 - 79 power disc system?
the disc master cylinder is different. You shouldn't need a different proportioning valve just to add a booster. I am not real sure Ford offered power brakes on a 71 F-250 4x4 but the 2wd drive one should work since the drums are basically the same size. You may want to research if different master cylinders were available. The heavier duty pickups like the camper specials had larger brakes, on the rear any way.
