An unbelievable conversation
This guy knew everything about Ford trucks, from the fifties through the seventies. You could not tell him he was wrong because he owned or worked on every ford truck possible.
He even said in 1965 all Ford trucks were assembled in Canada. All parts were shipped to Canada for assembly due to the Ford strike which lasted until mid 66.
Another part of our/his conversation was selling parts. He says he goes to wrecking yards, takes pictures of parts then lists them for sale on ebay. If someone buys it, he then goes back to the wrecking yard to pull the part. If the part is no longer there he puts the buyer on hold until he can find it or they give up. He did not refund any money.
At this point I just wanted to leave. I completed my transaction. (I got a hell of a deal and I need the grilles) I will not contact this guy again no matter what.
1946/67: The only Ford (and Merc) trucks assembled in Oakville Ontario Canada were only sold new in Canada. This was due to tariffs that then existed.
When the tariffs ended in late 1967, Mercury trucks were cancelled (after only a few 1968's were assembled).
Ford vehicles have been assembled ever since in Oakville for both the Canadian & US markets. One example, all 1973/79 Crew Cabs. Today, the Edge & the "rebadged" Lincoln version are assembled there
68 day UAW strike: I remember it well, as I was the back parts counter guy at Ralph Williams Ford. Strike occurred in 1967 .. not in 1965.
When the strike began September 6, not only couldn't dealers get any new vehicles (none were being assembled), they couldn't get any parts either. Teamsters refused to cross UAW picket lines.
1967 T-Birds were fraught with problems. Several had been sold to actor pals of 'ol Ralph (who was married to actor Leon Ames' daughter), they were b!tching.
In order to get parts to fix 'em, Ralph said: "Strip the parts off new T-Birds!" When the strike ended, we had to order the parts for 3 new '67 Birds.
We've known each other for many years Bill and I wish NO harm to you what-so-ever... but... The image I had was hilarious.
If I ever saw this guy walking toward you to engage in conversation I'd take him out with a single shot. I only want the cartoon image that is embedded in my cranium to be the only image around.
Thanks for all your wisdom and sense of humor Bill. Talk to you soon.
