I use Delo 400, Shell Rotella is also an excellent product. You will readily find these brands throughout the country. Make things easy on yourself, don't get fancy.
I used to swear by Rotella....still do for our Cats and Detroits....but a good friend and a sharp big CAT guru, says the Powerstrokes don't like the Rotella. Mine was burning about 2 quarts between changes and he said to try the Mobil Delvac 1300. He said Powerstrokes always seem to burn the Rotella, but not the Mobil Delvac 1300. SSOOOOO, at my last change I went with the Mobil Delvac 1300 to see if he was correct. BTW, he is a boat diesel guru, and still swears by Rotella for the big CATS, just not the powerstrokes.....What does everybody think of this? It can't hurt to try....and I will post my results at next oil change.
It's worth a shot... let us know how it works out.
I haven't had any problem burning oil with Rotella. I'll have to keep my eye open and watch for it.
btw, after 6k miles of heavy driving and offroad, my oil looks as golden as when I put it in there the a few months ago.
The three "dyno" oils mentioned are very good. So is Motorcraft oil and oil filters. Mobil 1 is not recomended for PSD's cuz it doesn't have a special anti foaming agent that we need for our HP oil system. Mobil Delvac 1 is the Mobil brand synthetic that IH/Ford recomends, even though it is 5-40. I highly recomend doing some research on oil filters, When I did I was supprised on some of the info.
