Gauge check???????

Does anyone know if there is a way to check to see if a gauge is bad or broken. I installed a pyrometer and it worked fine, but when I added a trans temp gauge, the pyrometer needle now drops below 0 and bounces intermittenly. I think somewhere I crossed wires or screwed up the ground when I pulled the pod apart. Too many wires to keep track of. I was hoping there was an easy way to test the gauge to see if something is wrong.............any comments?
