Trans has new solenoids in the trans but is shifting too firm sometimes from 1-2 or 2-3.. It is tolerable going up, but when slowing down it jerks really bad from 2-1. Sounds and feels horrible for the trans and miserable during stop and go traffic. Ive had to switch it to Manual and start off in 2nd gear. Im deleted, with intake, and a custom sct x4 tune. My main question is there any way a new tune could have better shift points? Also can someone recommend someone who could send a tune to be uploaded and used to try out different or better shift points?
I would check for any updates that might be available for your tunes from the person/company you bought them from. If that doesn't work, send me a PM and I can point you in another direction.
Hi! ..I just bought my '11' last month and I noticed that on normal take off the trans shifts hard from 1st to 2nd and 2nd-3rd .if I take off fast it shifts OK. Have you heard of a fix for this and what is TBS?

Yes mine has been the same way.. Same applies for downshifting.. If i were to apply brakes early to slow down it will jerk pretty hard, but if i wait longer and hit the brakes pretty firm but not locking them up it will shift smooth..
i have some experience with tuners.. just new to the diesel world. I could understand the firm shifts for WOT, but not for a casual shift while not getting on it while driving around the city...

Welcome to the forum, iwsmitty25! I'm the Ford Service rep here. I don't have access to TSBs, but your dealership can run your VIN to see if any would apply. How many miles are on your rig?
I've noticed when I'm in tow/haul mode usually towing the 30 foot toy hauler the transmission shifts super smooth. I do get some hard shifts when driving without any type of load.
I'm in the same boat. The 1-2 and 2-3 are more firm compared to the others. Tow/Haul mode makes everything smooth out great. When I come home from work on Thursdays, I have to sit in Atl traffic. To avoid all the firm shifts, I just put the truck in Manual mode and leave it in 3rd gear till I'm out of traffic. I wish a tuner could tune out first gear on a tune until tow/haul was selected. First is very deep and it shifts to second in no time anyway. Second gear has plenty of "umph" to get an empty truck going.
Yea when towing it drives amazingly.. but nothing behind it its really jerky.. i had them tweak the tunes some but its still doing it.. the 1-2 up and now its the 3-2 down.. but as stated when you brake hard its a smother shift.. truck has 144k on it.. had it for about 2 weeks b4 i deleted it and tuned it.. from what i remember it shifted smooth before..
any suggestions on sct x4 tuners? Someone who maybe has a better tune to try or work with on building a custom tune with different shift points or line pressure??

With an X4, try and find tunes from Matt @ Gearhead or Eric @ Innovative.
You're not alone.. I've experienced the same exact behavior with the SCT X4 with custom tunes. My truck has 180k on it.
Have you resolved the issue? Or still having it? The place that installed it when i called them to talk about the tunes they just wanted to blame it on the solenoids or the converter.. no one on h&s's are having the issue? so basically it is a tuning issue on the scts?

Thanks everyone
I haven't resolved it. I've only ever noticed it when going into a parking lot for some reason. It's a very unsettling noise.. I thought it was possibly the drive shaft making the noise but it's interesting we both have SCT x4 programmers where'd you get your custom tune I wonder if that is also in common. I got mine from PIP.
It was loaded on it when I had all the work done. I had exhaust, dpf delete, s&b intake and the tuner all put on at make it fit motorsports. When I called them about the issue after driving it and getting tired of it as it got worse, I asked who did their tunes and they said Chris, Tunes by Chris. Doesn't sound very promising lol but had him edit the tunes and it got better on some and worse on others.. It usually doesn't seem to do it as often right after I retune it but as I drive on it longer it becomes more frequent.
