My body man says the adhesives are expensive and welding parts is cheaper.
I read that as "I don't know anything about adhesives so I'm going to hope I can dissuade you by playing the wallet card".
No offense, but it also sounds like he is set in his ways and is only willing to do it his (easiest) way: flange the seam and lap weld it, cover the shrinkage with filler. I think you are either going to have to accept his way or find someone else (or take my next workshop and do it yourself, even less expensive!)
