The canister holds the fuel filter. It is corrugated like an air filter. The bottom port is the gozinta, the gravity feed from the fuel tank and the top threaded port is thew high pressure (6-8 psi) gozoutta to the carburetor.
A lot of guys don't even know about the filter.

Not recommended to use a large pair of pliers to remove housing. They do make a small removal wrench similar to an oil filter wrench. If still hard to remove a bit of heat from a heat gun or hair drier near the threads might help. DO NOT USE A TORCH !!! Gasoline is allergic to flames.

My new replaced was on so tight that man or beast could not unscrew it by bare hands. Awhile back bought the rubber strap wrench from HF Tools co.

Luckily I had the small one was little enough to get into that pump area and it loosened the puppy up.

No reason to over tighten those..

I have to admit, I thought that the rubber strap wrench would not do it an break, but once again HF tools to the rescue got the job done.

Inside the canister, which threads off/on, is this:

C4AZ-9365-B .. Corrogated Paper Cartridge Fuel Filter (Motorcraft FG-1A) / Available from Ford & auto parts stores.

Applications: Myriad I-6 & V8 1964/72 Passenger Cars, Trucks & Econolines, 1966/72 Bronco's.

This was the only fuel filter factory installed on these trucks, but...some people were unaware, so they installed an aftermarket in-line fuel filter.

Meanwhile, this filter was getting more clogged up every day.

You should see the look on people's faces when I use those terms -- gozintas and gozouttas.

Some people just don't have a sense of humor.

The terms are Latin. I only use them on highly-literate audiences.
