Hi, this is a very stupid question, but i have never had a 4x4 and im going to buy a 98 super cab 4x4 and i test drove it today , but didn't know how to put it into 4x4 high, i got it into low range. if anyone could please answer my stupid question i'd apprecieate it
DID you have the vehicle stopped and in neutral? Sometimes there is a delay in the shift motor too, and you have to wait maybe 10 seconds. If it is real slow it may have a sticking shift motor in the transfer case.
The shift lever will be the whole way forward in 4X2. Just pull it back one click to get it into 4X4 high range. You can do that while you're driving or stopped.....it doesnt matter.
To get it into 4X4 low range you have to stop, shift into neutral and then pull the lever the whole way back.
The 4X4 light on the dash will light up when you're in 4X4 high the 4X4 and low range lights will light up in 4X4 low.
Then there's the possiblilty of a blown bulb....
you already have had it in 4HI, especially if you've had it in 4 LO. You have to go through 4Hi to get to the low range to begin with.
