Over the past few weeks, I have seen many new 03 Expy owners with the same type of complaints/problems. Some have which have risen to the level of legal procedings (Lemon Laws). Even though I own a 97, I would hate to see the image of our beloved vehicles dragged through the mud. So before someone like Consumer Reports hops all over us, what I am suggesting is a "punch list" for new Expy buyers to use as a guide during the initial test drive/delivery of their new vehicles. If we get enough support, maybe we could pass it on to Ford in hopes of improving later models.
So, 03 owners, here is your chance to list all your gripes.......be specific as you can (trim level, engine, etc..).
I own a 2003 that I have had for a little over a month. I wish I had done the following on my test drive:
- Put a thermometer in the AC duct to see if the temp. stays correct.
- Run the truck through a touchless car wash and see how many windows leak (three in my case)
- Look at how much brake dust is on the wheels after a 10 mile test drive.
Lucky for me that all my problems are minor. I just wish I didn't have so many "minior" problems on a new vehicle.
Lousy sound from the so-called Audiophile sound system, after the Mach system in my 98 Expy I'm very disappointed.
The brake dust I can live with as the 03's brakes are MUCH better than the 98's,I'd rather gripe about dirty wheels than how high my insurance jumped because I rear-ended a mommy-van full of kids.
The only other common problem I've had was the front axle groan/vibration and that was promptly repaired.
My rear hatch window latch had to be adjusted so I didn't have to slam the window shut for the latch to catch and all 4 wheels were replaced under warranty no questions asked when the clearcoat was pitting around all 4 center caps, probably to to some type of contamination on the wheels before they were clearcoated.
Maybe I got lucky, these are the only concerns I've had with mine. My build date was Nov.14,2002.
The biggest improvement would be to limit the 4.6 engine to the lightest 2wd models, and make the 5.4 (espcially if it's the new 2004 F-150 24-valve version) the base engine for all 4wds.
Tell the yahoos at Ford to slow down while building them.......
A/C flat out Sucks !!!
Rear A/C clogged and drained all over the inside (about 3 gallons) before I found this problem.
Brake Dust
Smart mirrors are actually stupid and do as the wish most the time
Several flaws in the paint
Redesign the front seats where someone other that Manute Bol seating in the rear can see over them. (Great for installing 9" monitors) but suck for anyone wanting to look out the front.
