Fuel gauge problems

I recently got my license and I am currently driving my father's 1986 Ford F150 truck. As far as I know there are no modifications to the original design. I do have a problem with the truck though, the gas gauge does not work and I have been roughly calculating the mileage to know when to fill it up. If someone could tell me the miles per gallon and the size of the gas tank in gallons, that would be great. Thank you.

Fuel gauge problems

Hey there…well I cant answer your question directly because my Chiltons manual doesn’t go past 1980…so I would suggest looking online to find out what the gas tank capacity is, (or you could run it out of gas and then push it to a filling station and then find out that way, but that could be harmful to your truck so it is not advisable), as for the gas mileage it will depend totally on the state and condition of your trucks engine…also a point of order you may want to go out and fix either the floater on the tank or the sender connection to the gauge (keep in mind I’m going off of 1972 details but the principle is the same)

Signed,
The Don
