Cracker, you have an automatic column with the shifter linkage removed.
your rag joint looks aweful close to the gear box. It's been a long while I've been in my column but I had the same problem YEARS ago. In the top end of your column under the steering wheel is a cone shaped bushing that sets inside a bearing. As i recall, the bearing is part of the collar. I replaced the cone part, fingered so grease into the bearing. When I was finished, it was better but felt tighter that a frogs butt. I then loosened the cone clamp just above the rag joint, fingered some grease in those bearings and reinstalled the cone clamp just touching the bearings. By doing so, it raised the streering shaft, so much the blinker canceler did't hit the blinker cam. I loosened the 2 bolts under the dash of the column and raised it.
Let us know what you find.

My shifter stopped working about 10 years ago, the shaft broke away from the rod or something, so when I would go from P to L1 on the column the bracket on the end of the column wouldn't move. So I put myself in a floor shifter and left it at that.
I am going to go through your suggestions and see if I can make this work a little better, it sounds like maybe I just need to loosen the column and the bearing clamp and move it up a half inch or something and take some of the pressure off that joint. Maybe I get some grease up in there to help make it nice and smooth too. Thanks for the tips!
(I assumed this was the pic you saw in my photobucket?)

No Sir, there is a more clear view of the side of your hydro boost that shows the gear box in the back ground.
This could be the perfect excuse to put a tilt column in

Tilt columns are not exactly a dime a dozen though! I have a dent column in my garage up on the shelf, it should be in pretty good shape, I paid $25 for it about 10 years ago...

That's how you put tilt in a Bump. I think there is info in Hio's Compilation that show's how to put a Dent tilt column in a Bump.
I heard him say he had a straight column from a dent. I could have read more into it tho.
I haven't read HIOs thread on it, but with the wiring dodad, I've learned a trick that worked out (for me) to get the wires in the column sleeve...

Right, I have a regular straight column from a dent up on my shelf. Tilt columns are not so easy to find!
I need more time. My month of F-100'ering is already over, with leaf spring replacement, front I-beam replacement, and hydroboost upgrade. I'm working on my Mazda pickup right now and maybe picking up slack on another project after that, I will have to tackle the column in a few months. There's never enough time and never enough money to do everything that needs to be done
