I bought a '65 unknown

I just bought site unseen what I thought was a '66 F100, but the VIN seems to say it is a '65. The engine, trans, and PS box all seem to be from something else, and I could use some help figuring out what is supposed to be what.

The warranty tag on the door after some cleaning.

The unknown PS box...Though it looks like some sort of Saginaw, just not the normal F100 one.

The tag on the valve cover of what I think is a pre 74 351W due to thermostat housing lower bolt access and dipstick placement at the front of the engine. I can't get to the block casting number due to the starter being in the way.

I think the Steering column is original because it seems close to me when I was sitting behind it. Anyone have the measurements how far it "should" stick out from the dash?

I appreciate all the help anyone on here can give me.

Thank You

Welcome, FordFlare to FTE.
The power steering gearbox is from a Ford truck, '68 - '79, and is a popular upgrade for trucks back to '65 (but no earlier).

Your VIN is
F10JN709671
F10 = F 100 series
J = 240 Six cylinder, 1 bbl carburetor
N = Norfolk Assembly Plant
709671 = built July 1965

115 = 115 inch wheelbase
A = Black in color
F100 = F100 2wd
E = Trim code - Red crush vinyl and red ladder pattern woven plastic
81 = Body type = Conventional Cab
A = Three speed manual transmission
09 = Ford 3.70 rear axle ratio, non-locking

5000 = Maximum vehicle weight loaded
129 @4000 = 129 HP at 4000 RPMs
24 = DSO = Jacksonville, FL

Next Question: Does the frame VIN match the title? I see the possibility that the Warranty Plate may have been changed when the door was replaced.

The front of the block is still blue...the valve cover may not be original to the engine. Who knows with a 50 year old truck.

Where is the frame vin? I haven't looked. I did not notice a clutch pedal hole as it is a C4 now.

The frame VIN is stamped on the upper frame rail passenger side, about in line with the front of the engine.
It is a light stamping and therefore easy to miss. If you need to clean the metal up to see it, which is likely, don't use anything heavier than a powered wire brush. A grinder is too much.

You can see that the door's Warranty Plate is not from your truck, as you noted, there are no remnants of a clutch that used to be there.
