F350 purchase help

I'm looking to purchase either a 97 350 with the 460 or a 94 7.3 turbo IDI. I know my was around a gas engine pretty well but this would be my first diesel. What do you look for when purchasing a used diesel? How concerned should I be about a truck with a bad or tampered with odometer?

Thanks for the help. So far these forums have really helped direct my search

if i remember correctly 92 and newer trucks have a digital odometer, so tampering with it would require changing the computer to get a lower mileage reading

Altering the mileage on digital odometers ('92+) trucks is as easy as swapping out the cluster. Look for the basics. How clean underneath is, look for leaks in engine compartment, how it runs...
