Does this thread apply to undercooling? The temp gauge on my 94 IDI Non-PS is reading quite low--barely getting to the "L"
the dash temp gauge is not very accurate. i would shoot the engine at the thermostat neck when warmed up with an infrared thermometer to see what the temp is.
if you do decide to change the t-stat, only use a ford or international dealer t-stat. auto parts supply house units do not work in the diesel engines, and will very quickly overheat your engine.

I agree. A fresh thermostat sure can't hurt, though.
What does that screen look like. Is it clean or filled with Bugs. If its clean not sure if the screen alone would be enough to restrict flow through the radiator.
The screen is clean, radiator looks clean on both sides. Light shines through.
Ok thanks for the help ya'll. I'm late in giving an up date to what I did so here it is. I replaced the water pump (it started throwing the belt off the pulleys ), the T-stat ( I had never changed it), serpentine belt (chewed up from being thrown into all moving parts on front of engine), and the fan clutch ( cheap insurance since I would have it off to change the water pump ). What I found was the copper coil on the front of the fan clutch was gone! (Found it on the radiator crossmember . )Water pump was not leaking on the outside but the bearings had a hard spot in them. What I LEARNED from the ordeal is a new 180 T-stat is to cool for my engine, a 195 has since replaced it. ( Truck just wouldn't get up to the normal range on temperature guage.)
I hope my ordeal with the overheating issue helps someone, sorry I didn't post sooner.
