Spring time weather in Texas can go from peaceful to all hell breaking loose and back to sweet beautiful peace in a moments notice.
Today they were tracking some storms as they moved from west of the Dallas, Ft Worth, TX area. Winds in excess of 100mph, chance for up to quarter size hail with heavy rain. Tornado watches and warnings being issued as the storms advance towards us. So I do what any sound minded person would do. I go out to the rear deck on the house and observe the storms as the march straight ahead from west to east. Dead calm for awhile, followed by a little rain. Nothing to get excited about as I waited for the high winds to swoop down and blow me off of the deck. Then comes that unmistakable sound as small hail begins to hit and bounce off of the metal roof on the house. Small turns to medium and medium turns to golf ball size hail bouncing off of the roof, the stones walls and post as the golf ball side stones ricochet across the tile floor tiles of the deck pelting my legs as I dance in an effort not to get hurt.
I finally retreat to the safety of the indoors and listen as the hail keeps pounding away thinking that I am so very happy I keep my F350 in the garage and safe from such damaging storms.
As the storm moves on to the east I go out to check the 5th wheel trailer. I open the door from the rear foyer into the garage and stop in horror as I come to the realization that I had left my truck outside due to my remote garage door opener not opening the door when I returned from my trip to the bank. I had gotten out of the truck and used the keypad on the garage door to open it and walked on inside.
In the available lighting that I had I could see no damage other than some wet dirt came off where the truck was hit by hail stones. I guess the early morning light will show me the whole story as I was the truck looking closely for any hail ding, dents and damage.
The good news is that everyone survived the storms this time. But, it's still early in the storm season so you all be careful out there now ya hear!!!!
Thank God no one was hurt, I hope you find no damage to the truck. If you're anything like me, it was drive me nuts until I could inspect it thoroughly. I would think you could feel any damage with that size hail.
It just missed me by less than a mile here in Frisco. I scrammed to the nearest covered parking since my truck wont fit in the garage with all the motorcycles eat up all the space.
I had the same gut wrenching feeling last week when we got hit with monster storms and hail while I was at work and couldn't do anything to protect my truck. Since I was working nights, I couldn't even inspect until the next day. I was very relieved to see that there was no damage. There are a few dealerships in the area that are having hail sales now though.
The core of the storm passed 5 miles to the north, along with the golf-ball hail. I am like others, the truck will not fit in the garage, but I take it to the storage building where the 5th wheel is and snuggle close to the trailer.
Well kind of a blessing in disguise. Went out and did a good, well better than good wash of the truck and no damage noticed from last nights golf ball size hail. And now I have a very clean truck to boot.
Heck, it looks so good I may have to go back out and wash the SHO so that it looks as well.
Chief901, we are not to far to the west of you in Ovilla.
Glad you did not have any damage. Mine had hail damage in June 2012 @ DFW Airport while we were on an Alaskan Cruise. I never want that to happen again.
