cleaning/replacing ignition switch contacts for dummies?
I am looking for a guide to cleaning ignition switch contact points
for dummies. Or replacing (if necessary). What are the contacts
made of (copper)? How does one take off, disassemble, and
reassemble the ignition switch (if necessary)? (Does it fix
the "dim headlight" problem?) If I get a new ignition switch, can I keep the old key and lock tumbler or should I re-key the
doors as well? Thanks!

Just replace the switch, they are too cheap to mess with trying to take apart, and disassembly would likely destroy it. You wont need to rekey the whole vehicle, but you will need to keep your old door keys. If it is the old dash mount style if memory serves me correctly they are just mounted with a retainer ring that unscrews from the stem housing. It wont fix dim headlight problem. That is usually a ground problem.
