2011 EcoBoost Reliability?

Looking at getting an F-150 with the EcoBoost. I have heard they had some issues with these motors in 2011. Is this true? If I get something in the year should I just get the 5.0? What are some things to look for with these engines?

There are in general, issues with the ecoboost engines and turbo's in general running that high of boost as daily drivers....including carbon build up which right now, the only real way to clean em up is to pull the heads.

So...would you suggest passing on one all together?

I have had no problems with my 2011 at 41k miles, but I would not buy another 2011 because of the fuel tank size on the ecoboosts of this year. In 2011 they put a 26 gallon tank and 2012 and up they put a 35 gallon tank on them. At 8 mpg pulling a travel trailer my range sucks. I would love to have the extra nine gallons on a long trip.

I looked at a 2011 in my local neighborhood just out of curiosity, the guy wants 13,000 for it, says it has 198,000 miles on it truck looked pretty good to me, of course, I have no knowledge of what issues this truck might have had, but it averaged 50,000 miles a year, it wasn't parked very often.

I looked a truck on a lot once that was 4 years old and had a little over 200k miles. The salesman gave me a spill not to worry about the miles since they were all highway miles. I told him I believed him on that because the truck dang sure had not had time to be off the highway.

I traded off my 2011 for a 2015. I had just over 100,000 miles on that 2011 Ecoboost motor with zero issues. Great truck better motor.

I have a 2011 EB, 4x2 with 3.15 axle, bought new in fall 2011. Going to roll 50K miles soon, no issues whatsoever with the engine. I needed to replace a grease seal assembly in the drive train (under warranty), but that had nothing to do with the engine, which has been great. Just hauled >5000 lb utility trailer 2500 miles across country without a hiccup, averaged 16.4 mpg for the duration of the tow. If looking today, the only thing I'd do differently is more standard axle; otherwise, no issues at all so far.

Bill.

My 2011 FX4 is just shy of 60k, other than tires all I have done is changed oil, etc.
Nice truck

30,300+ miles and tow 8,000 pound travel trailer about 12 times a camping season and no issues on my Eco so far. Towing miles per gallon is around 8-9 though, but the power is impressive.
