This is my first post and I hope I am putting in the right area. When I start my 99 F-150 (4.6) there is a cloud of white smoke and even when it is running there is this smoke from the tailpipe. You don't really notice it during the day, but at night with a light behind the truck you can see it. I took it to the shop where he said that everything was fine and that what I was seeing was water vapor coming from the "internal environment of the exhaust system". I don't claim to know much about the workings of trucks, but this sounds a bit odd even coming from a reputable mechanic.
Does anyone out there think that this might be a correct diagnosis? I think the smoke smells like fuel but I am just not sure. They checked for water in the oil and oil in the water and did some pressure tests and they all came back fine. They said that if was fuel related it would be black smoke.
All I'm looking for is some reassurance that my baby is not dying an early death at 85,000 miles.
Its normal.Mine does it too with 89k miles. When you start seeing coolant disappearing and the white smoke gets thicker, then its time to worry!Until then, dont worry!
PCS,did your lower intake gaskets cause the problem?I had mine replaced back in Nov. 02 to avoid what happened to your motor. And,I have a 4.2 in my shed from another F150 I witnessed throw #4 rod thru the pan from lower intake gaskets going bad.Whos doing the work on your motor?Cost?
I haven't even gotten around to talking to someone about it.
My wife's cousin is a Ford mechanic and has quite a garage set up. I may let him work on it.
