I have a 2002 f-150 5.4 v8 I have had a bad miss in my truck for the last two months I replaced any COP's that coded on my truck didn't help it, checked vacuum leaks O2 sensors compression checks all good , put new spark plugs in still missed, changed spark plug in cylinder 1 and 2 fixed the miss for a few weeks now it's back changed all sparks plugs again and still have the probelm, I need help don't know what else to do?
Shall we guess whether you've taken the time to have any CEL codes read?
Those tend to tell us much more than "bad misfire". Because what you've done so far doesn't permanently cure this misfire then one other thing remaining to check is the engine wiring harness connector for the COP's. They have a locking tab that age or a fat heavy finger can break causing intermittent loss of contact resulting in the misfire.
Hello, I am experiencing a similar issue. #3 cylinder missing with new plug and coil. The wire connection seems to lock in good. Does not come loose unless the release is depressed. Plug is motorcraft set .054. Engine light is on. What type of reader would be good for this vehicle. I had a 2002 7.3 diesel excursion for years, now I'm getting acclimated back into a 5.4L gas engine. Thank you for any help. I did find that if your not careful there is a hose with no clamp that goes to the intake valve assy that can easily be pulled off while in the #3 cylinder are making the rough idle much worse. You cant see where it goes until you pull the intake line and remove the plastic cover.

Most often its best to begin your own thread to avoid new concerns being lost among the original topic. Another helpful hint is don't assume needed info is included anywhere by default, especially by way of a signature etc. Some here choose to not display every little thing that's possible; instead include pertinent info IN the OP for ease of reading and reply.
A code reader depends on your budget and degree of motivation to learn what its telling you--often the type, kind or brand can do much more than just read DTC's. In the short term places like Advance Auto offer a free service retrieving codes---you'd want to make note of them and share here.
