Transmission type

My vehicle gives me a code "G" for a C4 trans but it definitely looks like a C6. I know it is the original from factory. Did Ford change the code in 77?

I think "G" just means "3-speed automatic" - they weren't more specific than that on the warranty tags in those days from what I've seen.

"C" was Ford's 3-speed automatic.

"G" is even more vague... it just says "automatic" in the shop manual.

Thanks for the response. I need a shop manual as the Chilton doesn't give enough info. All original stickers are on the truck but the trans code was the only thing confusing me.

C-6 has 17 bolts in the pan. C-4 has 11.

2X what Gator said. In the first few pages of the LMC Truck catalog there is a transmission identification section with pics. Catalog can be viewed online at their website.
