I have a 1995 Ford E-150 van I-6 3 speed transmission. The rear end is stock and is roaring on drive and quiets down when I coast then roars again on deacceleration. I assume it is the pinion bearing or axle bearing. Does anyone have a diagram and repair and replace instructions for the rear end? Just wondering what I need tool wise to do the job myself, cant afford a shop fee.
Save up and just buy a whole rear axle assembly at the local scrappy.

After you drive it, check various points of the housing for heat. Each axle end, and the pinion area. If it's smokin' hot, get moving, check under the couch cushions etc, and git'er done. Otherwise, save up and start shopping.
Tools include a 200 ft/lb plus torque wrench, dial indicators, and the ability to do precision work under the truck on your back with dirt and oil in your eyes.

I didn't know they still made a 3 speed auto in '95, I thought they all went away about 93.
