Question Rear axle interchange question

Here's another one for you guys: My 1959 F100 has a 3.89 gear ratio. I would like a more highway friendly one, like a 3.23 or 3.42. What other 9" center sections will interchange with the one in My truck?

Just about any 9 inch with 28 splines. The yoke is the only thing that might not be the same as your old one. If it's still the six banger, I'd go with a 3.50. They are the most common too.

Ok thanks. Do these axle shafts bolt in, or do I need to use a slide hammer to pull them?

Four nut/bolts that go through the axle bearing retainer and backing plate, can be accessed through a hole in the axle flange. After removing the nuts the axles sometimes will come right out, sometimes they need some persuasion.
