I'm currently trying to put new headers onto my 292 Y block. The passenger side nut on the manifold is EXTREMELY difficult to get to. Does anyone have advice on this situation? Also, the generator that was on it went bad. No auto parts store can get me a generator for the 63, could i put on a 1 groove pully alternator on inplace of a generator or no.
You have to go to ebay or a parts vendor for the hobby to find generators anymore. The last time I got one over the counter was in the mid 1980s. Some NAPA and parts store can send them to a rebuilder.

Generators do not come with pulley's, and the generator is the same 1957/64 cars & trucks.
Try NAPA or an indie auto parts store. Most of the chain auto parts stores parts clucks don't have a clue, and older parts like this are not listed on their computers.
You have to get the parts cluck's to look in their paper parts catalogs, that are usually stashed under the counter.
I would have it rebuilt. You should have a local business that rebuilds starters, alternators and electric motors. Generators do very well. In some ways they are superior to an alternator in a simple system.
Yes I would have it rebuilt and there are such places that can do it because the parts are readily available. I never throw my old ones away. Also I've heard more than once that a generator will charge a completely dead battery by just running the engine whereas an alternator may not or get ruined in the process.
