Blew yet another plug

2001 F250 SD 5.4L 2WD

Blew cylinder 2 on the left side 18 months ago. Blew cylinder 3 in January and again today. Both previous times was able to fix. Might not be so lucky this time as plug with new 14x1.25 insert just sits into the hole. No threads. I've got some JB Weld wondering if that'll work long enough to trade the damned thing in for a Yugo.

I've read about an oversize Timesert just for this type of repair.

I feel your pain, just went thru an ejected plug on my V10. I've also heard of the oversize Timesert's. Spending a couple hundred bucks on this repair is a helluva lot better than trading it in on a Yugo.

I trust by your chosen username you aren't going to be hanging around too long...

I'm not a Ford person but I've really come to like my truck. I bought it three years ago with 86,000 miles on it. It now has 139000. The Yugo is just how frustrated I am with it. Of all weekends for this to happen is the one I'm moving on. I will look into the timesert. Thank you.

What did you use for the previous repair?

An insert kit from NAPA. 14x1.25. Re tapped the hole and was good to go.

So what's going on here? Is this a case where the previous owner may have incorrectly installed new plugs at some time.....over torqued them? Were they the original plugs?

I have owned the truck for 3 years. 18 months ago the first plug blew, Cylinder 2 on the drivers side. This past January cylinder 3 on the drivers side blew. Yesterday cylinder 3 drivers side blew again. I placed a 14x1.25 insert on the plug and it literally just dropped into the cylinder. Would've gone all the way in but the nut kept it out. Needing a way to fix without replacing motor or head as I don't have the $ at this moment.
