Refurbishing/ Replacing Instrument Cluster Help Needed!

Sooooo - I took out the instrument cluster again and did another check and I've got the right bulb holders in and I've got current flow through the bulbs that would light the gauges.
So, I checked the above diagram that 77&79F250 kindly passed on, and tested between the headlight switch and the pin that should supply the bulbs and it looks as though the switch is dud. I wasn't getting any continuity to the fusible link until I started jiggling the headlight switch.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a decent replacement part for this switch (read some reviews and they don't read pretty!).
Also, just to double check, am I right in saying that I should be getting supply between the blk/blu or the red/yel connection on the headlight switch and the fusible link for the supply to instrument cluster? It doesn't matter if I've got the headlights "on/off" I'm still getting continuity between these wires when jiggling the switch?

I just want to double ck that you have the dash light headlight switch **** rotated full counter clockwise to turn them up to full bright and right before the lock on the dome light click?
Also have you cleaned the rheostat like wire coiled spring that the sweep arm contacts? Just wanted to make sure we were on the same page.
Dennis Carpenter has great replacement parts, better than most so I hear. Also have you looked into this? Truck Parts and Truck Accessories
