I have an 11 King Ranch f250 short bed with a diesel. I am wanting to tune for MPG as I only pull a 14ft enclosed trailer maybe weighing 7000#. The truck has plenty of power, needing to extend my range. Not wanting to spend the money for extra tanks or bigger one. Like to keep it all stock also.
Thanks

No such animal. You bought a 400 horse power 800 ft. lb. brick designed for heavy work. Some people will say they've done it. In my op. they would have to have the truck two life times to maybe break even if they were lucky.

also, cannot tune AND keep it stock.. those days ended with the 6.4 liter
an exhaust delete and tuner will cost you $1200-1600.. see ebay for 6.7 delete (you must have a tuner to do a delete)
and you 'might' get 1, maybe 2 mpg average over the long haul. some claim crazy gains, most here do not report that same experience.
But as mentioned, that will take a LONG time to pay back.
Most do this to remove the exhaust filter cause they idle a lot (ranch truck), or want more power. Most don't get extra mileage.

You will increase mileage with a delete. It isn't as significant as a 6.4, but I'm up 2 mpgs over stock running down the road empty. I get the same mileage towing deleted as I did stock. Tuning for mileage= deleting. Only way to have a noticeable gain over stock.
Since you're not carrying heavy loads, you can run a more narrow highway tread tire inflated to the max pressure on the sidewall.. Less rolling resistance gives a really nice boost to economy.
There has been some talk about cold air intakes with stock tune delivering more power and supposedly better MPG. I'm not a big believer in that though...

If the CAI were true, everyone would have done it. Never got anything out of it myself.
Let's say you average 14mpg. That's 364 miles from the 26gal tank.
If you spend $1200 on a 50 gal aux tank/pump/etc you're at 1,064 miles.
If you spend $1200 on a delete tuner and you average 16mpg you're at 416 miles.
Tune if that's wha you want but if you're really after range the money spent is spent more effectively on a tank set up.
If you have a long bed truck you're looking at a 1200 mile range....
On another note, and I am sure alot of folks probably Disagree with me, I would not Tune the truck if I wasn't deleting it. IMHO, you can run into all kinds of issues forcing more fuel / air with the restrictions you have with the stock setup. Just my $.02....
Ok, I am starting to understand my thoughts are not feasible. I been looking at tuners and delete kits.... That's about like looking at a China road map. I am needing guidance towards a reputable kit that's includes it all. Not looking at massive hp just something that's reliable. We do a lot of traveling late at night and in different states, so not wanting something to fail at 3am Sunday morning. If you know what I mean.
