I KNOW some of the grades and loads I've climbed should have budged the temp gauge but it hasn't even though the thermostatic clutch on the fan has kicked in at those times.
I've ordered a new sender and made a quick attempt to get the old harness loose but with it wedged under the belt, I ran out or light and patience, so I stopped before forcing it and breaking the connector. How does this thing release?
I'm going to run out and jam the camera down there to see better what I'm looking at:
You squeeze right above the protrusion on the bottom to release it.
I wouldn't sweat the gauge not moving though, the only time mine has moved is when I had cooling system issues. The gauge is more of an idiot light than a gauge and has steps not a sweep. It basically has three readings, cold, normal and over heating. Normal is a very large range.

That's what it looked like to me but I couldn't get a good grip on it with the belt in the way. Another attempt tomorrow in the daylight. I have a new sensor on the way anyway to see if it's any better. I did just install a digital stepper gauge with the sender in the lower drivers side of the thermostat housing to give me something more accurate if not.
Actually installed Water temp, Pyro, fuel pressure, HPOP pressure, boost and 6gun on a second thermocouple. I don't like reading parameters on a digital display so am using the 6gun for temp limitation only. (Came with the truck but wasn't installed properly.)

And, it won't move until it over heats. It's the design. Less movement, less customer complaints (IMO).
Anywhere from about 160*F - 200*F it stays right in the middle. 230*F its in the Red.
Got it off! It's just like all the other connections that look like it. I just had to be laying on top of the motor to get the right angle on it. Wasn't sure if I was missing a lock on it like there is on the MAP wiring.
New sender is on the way, they're cheap, and the auxiliary water temp gauge is working now so I don't have to worry about the stock one being too accurate.
