Input on 1990 F350 dump truck
My father and I are seriously looking at this truck in PA-
1990 F350 diesel dually dump truck
and I was wondering if you folks have any experienced insight. I've been conversing with the owner, and it sounds like the truck is in above average shape. He's a mechanic, and has kept it up. It has a few small oil leaks, the A/C and cruise don't work, but everything else does. The bed is 7'x10' and aluminum, with removeable sides, and the lift works well. I did not ask whether it was pto driven or electric- are there any major issues if it has an electric pump? I can ask that info, although I would put my money on it being pto driven.
Any thoughts, warnings, etc. are appreciated, as well as affirmations that these are good working trucks.

IMO, for $6K, I'd make sure he has reciepts for any work he's done on the engine. Just from my own bad experience with a 7.3IDI, I bought it with 152k on it and the PO never changed coolant or much of anything else on it. It didn't have any oil leaks and looked fairly clean but, 1.5 years later and new injectors, glow plugs, coolant change, water pump, freeze plugs (Had to remove trans 2 times for the rears) and finally a blown head gasket, I just said forget it and traded it off.
Most construction vehicles get worked hard and the smaller companies usually don't keep the maintenance up on their trucks like the larger companies that have fleet vehicles. Be very wary of the truck...I'd tack it to a certified diesel mechanic and pay the $100 for an inspection.

a 4wd,turbo diesel, dually, dump is one heck of a nice little money maker.
might be a bit high on the price until you consider the aluminum dump bed.great work truck if it's been properly maintained and still a heck of a good foundation if it hasn't but still rust free.you probably can't go too wrong there.you can find the f450's setup the same way for the same price or less, however their only 2wd which really limits them.
