One day my truck was running good. Next day it wouldn't start. It is an intermittent problem. When it runs, the fuel pumps come on when the key is turned on and quit within a few seconds. Sometimes the pumps will come on and stay on. When that happens sometimes the truck will run but the check engine light stays on and it idles erratic. Then something will click and the check engine light will go out and she'll run smooth as can be. I've got dual fuel tanks and changed the rear pump out about a year ago. It wasn't working at all. No problems since I replaced that pump. I tried to read the CEL codes but have had no luck. I don't think I'm jumping the right pins to read the codes. I'm sure I have a fuel problem. Anyone had similar trouble?
When my truck acted something like that I had to change the fuel tank selector switch. I ran the truck the night before. In the morning nothing. No sound from the fuel pump or anything. We checked everything from the relay to the pumps. Finally we checked the switch. One thing about the switch even when it wasn't working at all it still change the guage back and forth. This is why I thought it was working. I actually need the trim around the guages also, so I went to the junk yard and asked for the trim only. They showed me the trucks they had in the yard and when I found one with the switch still in it. I told him I wanted that one. He asked if I wanted the switch out and i just said it would just be a bother to take it out I'll just use it instead of mine. So I bought the trim and the 34.00 switch for @ 25.00. Been working fine ever since.
