OK so I have had the lift in and on for awhile now. Got some extra cash and decided to work on new steering. My pitman arm is froze and won't come off. Here is the dilema, don't have a pitman arm puller here in Germany, tried a two arm puller, but to no avail. It just won't move. Anyone else out there did it without the puller. I will try any ideas.
Try a little heat ,watch that gasket at the base off the steering box though dont want to melt it.WD 40 if you have that over there. The reason I posted though is I had one once that wouldnt come off after looking at it closer the splined shaft had a slight twist in it locking the pitman arm into place, ended up using twenty ton press to get it off if you can take it off that might be the only way, good luck.
Good luck! I think that was the hardest thing to do when I put my lift on. Had to use alot of pb blaster(penetraiting oil) soak it over nite. Heat it up Glowing hot. With puller installed and beat the heck out of it with a hammer. And hope you dont screw up the splines on the shaft or screw up the seal in the steering box.I was lucky. When you put the new pittman arm on,make sure the shaft is cold and the and oil it up so the new one is easy to install.
OK low and behold when it came down to it, the guy at the shop pulled it out. He said to many @#$^&*(^ get into trouble with them, so he reserves the use to his mechanics and people who know what they are doing. Said he just wanted to watch me work for a couple of days to make sure I was competant. Anyways, put it on REALLY TIGHT (broke a 20mm wrench tight)and tapped the sterring arm with a hammer, did this about twice and it popped right off. Thanks for the fast replies though.
