so i got the oil cooler taken care of and flushed the oil 3 times to be safe.(after 2 there was no more signs of being milky) so I drove it a couple times with no issues thought all was well til tonight. temp gauge never read over half way but after 18 mile on my way to work the engine temp light came on and truck shut off. popped the hood and the upper radiator hose going to the motor blown wide open . any ideas where i should even start to deal with this? any help is greatly appreciated. btw its a 1994 f350 with 7.3 idi turbo
You'd get better reply in the diesel specific folder.
And probably come up with a better title to draw more attention.
As far as your upper hose blowing apart, either your radiator cap is defective and didn't release the pressure, or your waterpump cavitated and wasn't pumping coolant and when thermostat finally opened it over pressured the system.
Or the hose was bad and it failed, coincidently right after you flushed the oil cooler.
More than likely what has happened is you have a blown head gasket and it's NOW pumping pressure into the coolant chambers. The weakest link at this time was your upper hose. Next time it could be the overflow bottle cap or even a freeze plug. This is all worst case scenario, It could have just been a bad hose. But with my 94 Crew cab with the 7.3IDI, I had everything happen to mine that I described to you.
I'm not sure what troubles you were having with your oil cooler, but assuming you thought it to be the cause of coolant in oil, is your oil milky again?
