I have a 2014 150 5.0 will be pulling a 22' 4k lb trailor and want to add the FORD OEM Trailer brake controller. I will be installing it, but want to know if i need to have it flashed or not, iv'e heard yes and no ?
We have a fleet of Fords here and yes, we have to flash each one when we add the OEM controller. Hope that helps. And BTW, I see you have a 14 5.0, how do you like it? I was looking at a 14 today and saw it has a 5.0 in it. Forgive me but I come from the diesel side
Thanks for the info about getting the controller flashed. My 2014 is a Super cab with 5.0, i added a Borla muffler for some nice sound and got rid of the stock muffler, i have goodyear wranglers on it, it looks awsome.. It runs super, no complaints...i get about 18.1 miles per gallon and this past weekend i brought home my trailor from Nebraska to Colorado and i got 8.9 miles per gallon, but it had no problem at all pulling the trailor, no sway too.
I found a local shop called Aerosuds that does mechanical and exterior on cars and trucks to program my OEM brake controller for only $52.00 , as opposed to all the ford dealers i called that wanted $75 - $135...Yeahhh
I installed a Ford Brake controller on a 2012 XL. If you do not have the Ford hitch installed, there is a wiring harness that goes from the back axle to the hitch, that you will need. On this truck, there was one wire that was in the harness going to the back, so we ran it. I can't remember now which one it was. If you already have a seven pin at the back it is PNP. There are several video's on utube
You do, but not all trucks that hat the tow package have the trailer brake controller installed from the factory.
This is true. The service guy at my dealer could of been feeding me a line but last time I went and asked he asked if I had the factory tow package installed. I don't see why it would make a difference.

It matters. The truck isn't wired to accept the factory IBC without the factory tow package. And yes it needs to be flashed for the truck to recognize the IBC. Dealer up in NH charged me $48. There are instructions for the tech on how to enable the feature with the IDS that come with the IBC.
Ordered my truck with the tow package included but as said above it does not mean it comes with the brake controller unless you choose it to. I installed it myself because it's literally half the price and fairly easy. Yes, you have to get it flashed but only costs maybe $50. Call around and find the best price.
I have the basic tow package with the 7 and 4 pin, but no brake controller. I found an OEM brake controller on ebay for $137, Installed it yesterday in about 25 min. Looks nice in the dash where the pocket used to be. The install was easy, per videos you can look up and the Elec. connector was sitting under the dash ready to be plugged in. Getting it flashed this week for $52 at Aerosuds, then this weekend we'll calibrate it with my 22' Camper.

You're going to love it! Hands down the best type of brake controller available.
I did my 2010 install and it was free to flash it because I bought truck and TBC from same dealer. I prayed just under $200 and spent ten minutes in my shop and then 20 minutes at the dealer to flash it. all in all its a dam good mod to have done!
