New starter Bendix now disengaging

well as the title says i put in a new starter and well when i start it up i can hear the starter bendix still engaging. but when i turn off the truck and the motor stops i hear the bendix pop off the flywheel. any suggestions?

got the starter from napa and its a remanufactured one

Make sure you have a starter that matches your trans… manual and auto are different.

Always a good idea to change the solenoid, too.

yeah got the right one. i have a manual. tested the voltage going from the ignition wire to the solenoid and it was at 9.4-9.6 volts. and going from the solenoid to the starter was over 12. had my buddy turn the ignition on and set to the run position to see if the ignition was sending the wrong signal to keep the starter engaged and everything checked out fine. took it back to napa and they bench tested it and i guess the bendix isnt coming disengaging fast enough. will have another one tomorrow morning. hopefully it will work. getting a newish 2007 f150 so need to sell my s10 and well i cant do that without my ford workin
