Steering Wheel Lock Actuator

Hi Everyone,

I have a 1990 F150 4x4

A lot has been written on this topic and I just have a quick question.

The actuator that locks the steering wheel, is that also the same device that push the rod down to the ignition switch and start the truck?

Thanks

They are connected, but are separate pieces.

EDIT: in other words, you'll be fine if you just want to remove the steering lock from the column. I did just that to my own truck.

Thx Dixi,

On my truck if I turn the key it does not push the rod all the way down so the truck can start.

If I replace the steering lock actuator, will it solve the problem?

I guess what I am asking is whether it is the actuator that pushes the rod down into the ignition switch when the key is turned?

Yes there is I believe an upper and lower actuator rod. Maybe just one piece instead, I don't remember.

The steering lock is connected to it but I don't remember it being an actual PART of it.

The actuator rod is a common thing to break.
