How do I tell.....

Ok I have a '79 F-100 - Custom 300 i6, is there a way off the VIN # or something to tell what tranny is is it? or is tere a number on the tranny itself that will tell me what I have?

How do I tell.....

If it is an auto it is a C4 tranny and if it is a manual it depends on how many gears forward gears you have.
