Hi guys. I have a 1990 Ford Bronco. I'm going to be putting in a Brand NEW 351W engine. It is also going to be equipped with Kenne Bell supercharger, I will be running 6 pounds of boost. I just need to know what kind of oil I should run to break in this engine, and what kind to run for the rest of it's life. Money is not a factor!! I really appreciate all you help!!
Sounds like a cool setup. Be sure to put the photos in your album. If it was mine I would start it up on Valvoline 10-30 and break in the cam. Then dump that oil and filter and go run it for about 30 minutes of brisk driving with another load a Valvoline then I would dump that oil and filter and put in a fresh charge of Mobil-1 and go run the heck out of it for a week. Then I would change it for fresh and now you can go 3000 per change. The first few are critical as new engines just puke out metal and lint. I have a filter cutter to prove it. This is how mine look now after 3000 miles.
Hey thanks for the great response. The only thing I'm still not sure of is, should i run a synthetic after break-in or should I stick to a dyno oil? Thanks alot for all your help!!
P.S. What do you guys think about Royal Purple motor oil. Is it worth the extra few bucks?
That is up to you. Mobil-1 has been proven to make your engine last up to 1,000,000+ miles or you can run some filtered and separated dirt fluid. Royal Purple is nice fluid as long as you use the street oils. The Royal Purple race oils don't have the additives to deal with prolonged driving. For me, as I hate engine trouble, I will stick with Mobil-1 10-30 in every gas engine I own.
Funny. Mobil also claims "million mile" engine life with Delvac 1300, a conventional oil. Does the supercharger manufacturer have a lube recommendation? I would follow that.
The supercharger company only reccomds the kind of oil to put in the supercharger. They say to use Red Line straight 50W synthetic oil in their superchargers!!
