Driving along in my 60 yesterday and realized that I didn't post a pic of my truck after finally coming out of paint last fall. Just in time to be put away for the winter.

I'm happy with the end result. Not a show truck and I'm not afraid to haul the family around in it. Really nice to drive with the Cummins and 5 speed. I did lots of sound deadening and the loudest noise is from the tires. I'll probably run it out to a few casual shows this year as it is a bit of an oddball.

This truck belonged to FTE user Kash McColl and I bought it from him 4yrs ago. Brought it home the day my 1st son was born. Two new babies in one day!

It was in need of a few things- some minor, some major and had a Ford Motorsports big block in it. Cool engine but not great for a truck that I wanted to drive a bunch. The paint was in poor condition having been baked by the sun. Heavy bondo had been used to fill some serious dents and was starting to crack. There was no rust though so that was a bonus.

We started by swapping in a 12 valve Cummins, NV4500 5speed form a '98 Dodge with 100k on it. We used a modified Auto world cross member and mounts as this body sits on a '77 F250 Chassis (nice to have discs up front and power steering). Believe it or not, despite the massive HP the big block was putting out, there was NO cross member up front. Just the tie member behind the front bumper. So Autoworld's beefy piece took care of that. Fitting this engine was TIGHT! Had to scrap the viscous fan and put a set of electrics in but we did manage to squeeze an intercooler in there. I had to section a 3"x3" portion of the firewall and make a new cover for the bit I cut out.

After the diesel swap it went to the body shop for a re-spray. We changed up the scheme a little to bring the maroon roof down the back of the cab a la mullet, more like Ford would have done on their 2-tone trucks. We left the colors the same and the interior paint was great so we didn't need to do anything there either.

I changed up the wheels for some simple aluminum rims and happen to have a set of 9.00 michelin XL military tires kicking around so it got those. Sound deadening was accomplished with CLD, mass loaded vinyl and closed cell foam under the jute and carpet. It's actually really comfortable inside as far as noise goes. Seats are some custom items that resemble grandma's couch- so comfortable in that way too!

As always, there are things left to do. It has a vintage air system but I need to install a remote condenser with a fan as there is no room out front. It has one piece power windows but some of the tracks are in poor condition and need to be changed along with some of the anti-rattlers. It had a fairly high end stereo system in it but with amp and the wiring job, it was a bit meesy to me so I pulled it. I'm going install a simple deck at some point but for now the 6BT makes all the music I need.

Gave her a quick bath and had a nice weekend getaway with my wifey last weekend.

 

Used the original speedo face but replaced the drive mechanism with a gps unit as the drivetrain has no p/up for a speedo. cut a little window for the odo/trip meter.





I haven't seen corner vents like these in a fridge before. Anyone else?

Can't say much about the workmanship of 1960 when this cab was assembled. Pretty rough. I suppose fit and finish wasn't reallyy a priority for a truck that was going to get beat hauling crew around the bush. Are regular cabs from the Ford factory this way too or is it just an Orville Metal Specialties thing?
