engine dying after getting to op temp
Has anyone ever had a problem with their 1bbl carb on an L6, 300 dying when the truck is sitting at idle after getting to normal operating temperature? The other symptom is once at operating temperature, the truck starts to jerk when taking your foot off the gas pedal. The truck has new plugs, wires, distributor, rotor and is timed at 6 deg btdc. Please help! The truck is a 81 F100.

I"ve never heard of the old carb'd motors giving this symptom... but i do know that on the EFI units the EGR valve can cause a problem, if not exactly identical to this, pretty similar. Most owners block off a portion of the EGR oriface, or block it off completely. It seems to work for the Fuelie guys, can't hurt to give it a shot.
Also, check your fuel filter, it could also be part of the jerking problem, and the stalling problem. Also it might be your Coil getting hot and shutting the motor off.
