I have a 1993 F-150, 302 v-8 engine. The engine idle is surging up and down. I have not been able to find the problem. If anyone can give some advice on fixing this problem, please respond
My '93 does the same thing as she starts. After a few minutes she idles better. I do hear what sounds like a vaccuum leak from right around the the fuel injector/carb thing on the top of the engine. Maybe I have a leak causing the same problem?
I checked all vaccum lines and went through everthing, and can't find any vaccum leaks. Its running lean, and drinking to much gas. I bought this truck for my daughter. It appears to have a lot of parts replaced, such as all sensors. I am thinking it's the computer.

The EEC is one of the most reliable parts on the truck, so it's unlikely that it's the problem. Always start by pulling the codes and looking up the definitions. But don't just start replacing parts that are mentioned in the definitions; diagnose those circuits according to the instructions in the Haynes manual and find out what the problem is. It's often just a vacuum leak or a loose wire.
prauch
That's the "throttle body" on top of the engine, and they sometimes leak, but not often. Look through the "General Purpose Pics" photos in my signature link and you can learn a LOT of the names for the parts on your engine. There are vacuum lines all over it, and there's a map to them on a sticker in your engine bay, probably on the hood.
Another common problem that causes a surging idle is a dirty IAC-idle air control- motor. It's fastened to the side of the throttle valve assembly and has a small wiring connector. It can be removed and cleaned, but make sure you DON'T let the cleaner into the motor end- just clean the valve end.
