So, got the speakers. 7 when you count the center channel and tweeters. Here's a shot of the fronts compared to stock. End result was a nice improvement. I still have to change out the driver in my sub and add my amp from the old truck. Then it's a testing period. If I am satisfied, that's it. If not, Kenwood and RF both are just coming out with integration systems to add an amp for the speakers and get rid of the factory EQ, crossover points, and timing.
Tomorrow if the body cooperates, sub and sub amp. Perhaps the radar and dash cam too...

Mornin Rodney. Looks like good progress yesterday and a nice plan for today. Definitely looking forward to seeing if speakers alone are enough, or if the additional electronics are needed. It is amazing what a little strategically placed Dynamat can do too.
BTW: I'm "kept" too! "Kept" busy - like you.

That's good news! As I said before, I like good, well balanced sound. That includes being able to actually feel the base, but I don't need to vibrate my rear view mirror though, or make the system loud enough for the neighbors to hear it. I'm glad a change to the speakers, sub and sub amp will suffice to get that quality. It is a shame that Ford can't do that on the assembly line though when you pay for "premium" sound. I recall in the past that the systems offered in several Ford vehicles were THX certified. Obviously they have the capability.

I wonder if the current "Sony Premium Audio" is "Sony Branded" much in the way the shocks on the FX4 package are "Rancho Branded?" Plenty of Sony stickers on the back but also FoMoCo and a Ford part number. Anyways, there are two options for folks who want more. Both just came out and are not even on the market yet. The Kenwood includes an amp and is a complete setup. Signal is sent through an OE specific harness and processed by an Idatalink Maestro module then sent to a 6 Channel Kenwood amp. The amp is configurable through BT with a built in DSP. So, you can adjust EQ, timing, etc. The other option is the Rockford Fosgate DSR-1. It is essentially the exact same thing but without the built in amp and would be a better choice if someone would prefer to run an amp they already own or a brand amp of their choice. However, I think I'm past needing either of these. When I was younger, this would have been the first mod I did. I guess I'm getting older like Steve... Just not quite as old as I couldn't just leave it alone completely! LOL...

For what it's worth, in my 2015 truck I had planned to replace everything as Rodney has done but when I heard it all I needed to do was replace the little 1" tweeters. The factory sub has enough to vibrate the mirrors and the 5 mid range speakers are okay enough for me. I am tempted to replace all the mids now as we watch Rodney do this. I'll be shopping crutchfield today for sure....

The mid bass from the front 6X9's was a big difference for sure Joel. The average person wouldn't need a sub upgrade with the amount of bass coming from the front doors now. Especially since I Dynamated both the inner and outer door skins. (I bet I eliminated even more road noise by doing this as well... not that there was much to begin with!) Although the one thing they did improve was the size of the amp for 2017 so I may be getting a bit more power from the OE amp than on previous generations.
