Come on Tom, you're a regular now. Once you meet up with us at one of the offline G2G's, you'll be family too...

Well, home sick today. Scheduled a bunch of work at the house and intended to call out. Michael got a cold Sunday and now Becky and I both got it. Feeling like I'm on the downswing though. Got a call from the boss man that someone was spreading rumors (our shop steward....LOL) about the position changes at work, they had to get in front of it and finally act. So I will be shop foreman starting now. Only thing I give up is the company truck. Have to finish a big project before I can clean the Peterbilt out. I am NOT looking forward to that task!

Back to the thread, I wish we had national forest or BLM land to boondock around here. If we did I'd have more concern for generators, solar, and tank sizes. I do know out grey tank sucks at 33 gallons. Will make sure it is double that on the next trailer! Big brown will be delivering the water filter today, and I got the crossmember for the strongarms painted. Pretty productive for a sickie.

Congrats on the promotion! Get to feeling better soon.

I've been looking at my options for my truck. It has been slowly getting noisier and mostly sounds like an old 7.3 now. Would hate to have it grenade while I still have it.

Thinking I'll drop to a 250 this time. Maybe the 6.2 gas as with the 4.30 rear it's rated @ 15k which will handle my fiver. Just not sure about engine braking on the gasser, with the diesel it works well for me (mostly). My son is a parts mgr at a GM dealer so I'll see what I can get for pricing there too. Don't think the 6L 2500HD is rated for 15k 5th wheel though.

With a gasser I'd likely lose some mpg but then gas is cheaper most places. Might shorten the range though.

Why not just go to a 350 SRW? The 250 and 350 axles aren't the same for 17 on anymore, and the price difference is negligible. Just do the 10k derate on paper if you're trying to dodge registration costs.

Actually, since he said gasser, the rear axle would be the same. The 6.2 SRW 350 still get's the Sterling 10.5".

If you folks decide to come here.....We can do some camping together. We have a pontoon boat that can be put in either location. Just takes two trips......Too long of rig to double tow.
Roy quick question does Holter or Willow creek have cell reception (Verizon)?
Any good dispered camping around Helena or Butte?

Looks like about 2k$ diff up here going by a quick look of local dealer inventory of XLT CC PremPkg 250 is $65,499, 350 is $67,499.

If I buy/order a new one I don't want leather, sunroof, full pwr/cooled seats, nav or any of the options I have but don't use now.

Cell service.....Yes. I use Verizon.

I have not explored those areas.......
I do know Canyon Ferry Lake east-northeast of Helena has a bunch of camping. I don't have personal experience there.

I use www.freecampsites.net/ to scout available locations.

Technomadia has an app for figuring out what areas should have reception.

I use that one plus blogs that have rigs of larger size. Sometimes if they just post a pic with minimum discription they can be found but takes a little researching to find the location. Goggle earth can be revealing of those spots. One of the problems with freecampsites is that everone and their bother knows wear it is down to coordinates but for an overnighter that's ok.

I've found that unless you're in an place with a huge boondocking area (eg: Quartzsite) then pretty much anywhere is quite busy if it's high season.
